Relation Anarchy

Relation Anarchy (RA) can be said to be a form of polyamory also called unlimited relations. Practitioners are called relation anarchs or relation anarchists. The abbreviation is RA.

Relation anarchists do not make a difference in principle between friendship relations and love relations and therefore are able to have several parallel relations that can be both friendly, sensual and sexual. The practitioners refuse all formal relationship types and instead allows for the individual relationship to develop according to its own terms. Relation anarchists do not divide relations into partners and non-partners, but have a more open way of looking at relations where everything is allowed as long as everybody are able to accept the arrangement. One consequence of this is that relation anarchists often have several sexual, loving and/or intimate relations.

An unlimited relation is not the same as an open relationship. An open relationship is when two people have an agreement to be together but that it is ok to have sex, be intimate and/or be in love with other people. Because relation anarchists do not make a difference between different types of relations they are not partners with anyone, even if they for ex can have a long lasting loving relation. That means that a relationship does not exist and therefore cannot be “open”.

Relation anarchy is strongly influenced by queer theory in the way that it refuses the idea of the heterosexual monogamous twosome as the foundation of society.
